GENERAL SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, responsible for providing safe transportation of students to and from school and back to their homes. Reports to Director of Transportation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a bus over a route, which has been designated and approved by the Coordinator of Transportation and the State Department of Education.
Operates equipment in accordance with all state laws and regulations.
Maintains discipline of students being transported, and reports misconduct to the transportation administrators for appropriate disciplinary action using incident report provided.
Maintains a clean appearance of equipment, and reports any vandalism or equipment failures to immediate supervisor.
Provides written reports of road hazards on assigned routes.
Coordinates route changes with students’ parents.
Maintains an up-to-date status of students to transportation office.
Attends safety meetings.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date daily records on mileage and time sheets.
Uses all equipment responsibly.
Exhibits acceptable conduct as an employee in keeping with School Board policies.
Maintains current required driver’s license and other operator’s certification.
Administers general first aid when needed.
Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.
Willingly performs other related duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Must have valid license to drive a school bus. Must be at least 18 years old with no more than 4 points against driver’s license. Must have 10 hours of driving experience under supervision of an experienced driver.
Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of school District policies and procedures pertinent to the duties of the job. Thorough knowledge of handling discipline and working with students. Knowledge of basic clerical functions and modern office procedures and equipment.
Skills/Effort:
Written and verbal communication skills necessary to handle difficult and emotional situations. Skills in organization and maintenance of records and files. Ability to make decisions in non-routine situations requiring good judgment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents and other individuals/groups with interest in the District. Ability to handle disciplinary actions and disruptions.
Working Conditions:
Generally conducts duties in a vehicle with some exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to 25 pounds. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment. No overnight travel is required.
Responsibility:
No budgetary responsibility.
Responsible for supervising assigned students on bus.
