GENERAL SUMMARY
Maintains a high level of security and minimizes vandalism. Reports to the Principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Open the building each morning and secure the building at the end of the day as directed by the Principal.
Inspect the building exterior for possible unauthorized entrance and/or vandalism.
Inspect athletic complex on a regular basis for vandalism and lock up site after curfew.
Know where all fuse boxes, breaker boxes, and light switches are located so circuits can be cut off immediate in the event of fires.
Must be familiar with all emergency fire alarms in building.
Must be able to follow instructions, both written and oral.
Must be able to perform all assigned duties.
Must be available for after-hours emergencies.
Performs other duties as assigned by the head custodian / Principal.
Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.
Willingly performs other related duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school graduate. Experience as a security guard preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge:
Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Lee County School District as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Security Guard. Has thorough knowledge of the organization of the District. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Is able to make sound, educated decisions.
Skills/Effort:
Is able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and write. Is able to observe a group of individuals and anticipate behavior. Is able to deal tactfully and effectively with students of varying ages and faculty. Is able to interview students to find out information. Is able to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Is Able to physically cover the areas of responsibility under varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; articulate information in an emergency situation; use physical agility and strength to defend self and detain persons using force if necessary; and have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement.
