GENERAL SUMMARY

 

Assists in improving student achievement by implementing strategies necessary to aid in improvement of student behavior. Provides support to teachers and staff specifically relating to the social, emotional, physical, educational and behavioral development of the students.  Reports to the Principal.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and keeps records of disciplinary actions.

 

Provide interventions to students via software-based behavior management program.

 

Assists with monitoring of student attendance, and cooperates with district and/or county attendance supervisors for investigative follow-up activities.

 

Confers with professional staff and/or parents concerning student problems that hinder satisfactory behavioral or academic adjustment.

 

Responsible for early identification of students experiencing behavior problems.

 

Assists with the creation student behavior management plans.

 

Implements strategies as outlined in student behavior plans.

 

Provides pre-, peri-, and post- crisis intervention.

 

Utilizes strategies as outlined in the school discipline plan and according to the Principal.

 

Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

 

Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.

 

Willingly performs other related duties as required.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience:

 

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Knowledge of strategies to improve discipline. Counseling, Special Education, Social Work, or Psychology experience preferred.

 

Knowledge:

 

Is knowledgeable in the methods, policies and procedures of the Lee County School District pertaining to specific duties of the Behavior Interventionist. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge of the characteristics of the age group assigned. Knowledge of methods necessary for handling student adjustment problems. Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of behavior intervention. Knowledge of school policies and procedures, standard office practices, procedures and equipment, community linkages and referrals for student supportive services.  Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knows how to keep abreast of change in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations related to job functions.

 

Skills/Efforts:

 

Ability to counsel and advise students individually and in groups; work with underserved and at-risk students. Possesses the ability to communicate effectively – both orally and in writing; established cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.  Capable of Developing and implementing long-term goals.  Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply state and federal regulations.  Advanced human relations, communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents, district staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job.  Ability to complete, process, and maintain all required records, reports, and confidential student information.  Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities.

 

Working Conditions:

 

School environment with little significant exposure to environmental conditions.  Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students.  Physical demands are restricted to school activities that require the movement or lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.  Occasional local travel required.

 

Responsibility:

 

No supervisory staff responsibilities.
